Al
Jamea tus saifiyah is an academy in Surat founded by the 43rd
dai Syedna Abdeali Saifuddin (RA) in 1229/1814,where students
are taught the intricacies of islamic lore, classical arabic
literature and contemporary subjects in an integrated islamic
educational approach.It represents an educational movement
in the learning tradition of the fatemi imams,founders of
the world's oldest university,Al-Azhar.This movement was subsequently
preserved by the dais,who created centers of education in
Yemen and India, to which the faithful flocked. |

Al
Jamea tus Saifiyah runs a curriculum lasting eleven years.Students
are taught the Quran,Arabic language and literature,Islamic
jurisprudence,history,philosophy and doctrine memorisation
of the Quran and the learning of Arabic literature are given
particular emphasis and the students morality and piety are
continously evaluated.Along with the religious course, English,
Philosophy, Psychology and the Social and Natural Sciences
are also taught.The degrees conferred are mubtaghi al-ilm,
on successful completion of the first four years of study,Al-Faqih
on the competion of seven years, Al Faqih Al Mutqin
on completion of nine years and Al Faqih Al Jayyid
on the end of eleven years, and the sanad of hifz al quran
on successfully passing the exam of hifz. |

One
of the unique features of Al Jamea tus Saifiyah in its centre
for memorization of the Quran is called Mahad al
Zahra. The first of its kind in the islamic world,it
was built with the specific intent of facilitating the memorization
of the words of revelation that have changed the course
of mankind. The age-old practice is highly revered in Islam
and the skill sharpens the mind and makes it more receptive
to learning.This institution makes use of the latest technology
and educational techniques to aid the memorization process,including
rooms that are designed to attar acoustic feedback. It has
a serene atmosphere enhanced by interval gardens allowing
memorization to take place in a tranquil environment.
